THEVA-TARN | CREATIVE PROJECT | BOOK DESIGN
ThevaTarn is a creative project that explores the relationship between object and meaning through the Thai amulet, focusing on spiritual objects that previously held different cultural meanings. The project can be broke down to 2 parts. The first part is the booklet that contains fact, my writing on the experience and questioning around modern Thai amulet. The book act as a container for the idea.
The second part is the creating of an alternative amulet to bring awareness to an existed amulet of how they’re made, their material and their meaning. There are different god/amulets that represent certain topic that is common when Thai people ask or pray to amulets for supernatural facilities like Prosperity and Wealth or Knowledge and Wisdom.
The poster and cards can be place on an alter at home for worship. The card contain facts about each amulet as well as the words of prayer and how to worship them. Theva-tarn is not only created an alternative amulets but also as a satire brand that critique current amulet situation in Thailand. The book and poster will be distributed in Theva-tarn shop or amulet markets.
